Phase one of The British Club opens in Bangkok
The first phase of The British Club Bangkok was opened on Saturday 27 October.
The opening ceremony for the Silom Wing development, designed and delivered by Chapman Taylor, was conducted by His Excellency Brian Davidson, British Ambassador to Thailand. Chapman Taylor Directors Chris Lanksbury and Oscar Martinez were also present.
Set in a prime location in the centre of Thailand's buzzing capital city, The British Club is an exclusive members-only club. The grounds for this institution have been redesigned and expanded with young families in mind.
Phase one includes international-standard squash courts, a children’s pool, a playground, an outdoor pool bar and dining area, offices and other leisure amenities.
Construction work on phase two, the Surawongse Sala, will follow, introducing a feature cantilevered fitness suite, a restaurant, a swimming pool and a sun deck, with the entire project set to be finished in 2019.
Chapman Taylor's competition-winning design is inspired by the Union flag, with its unique geometry ‘draped’ over the club buildings. A series of standalone architectural structures which feature vertical green landscaping have been applied to the façades, helping to shade the development. These elements combine to create a striking visual identity for the complex.
The British Club is a symbol of strong and long-standing relations between the United Kingdom and Thailand, and our design aims to help strengthen that function for many years to come.
