City centre regeneration in a world heritage site

Work will begin in 2019 to create a new quarter within the medieval town centre of Aachen, a 3ha site immediately adjacent to the cathedral, one of the original 12 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

International design competition win

In 2015, Chapman Taylor won an international urban design competition to create a thriving new district, by redesigning the existing urban fabric and introducing new streets, public squares, housing, office, retail and a kindergarten.

Residential apartments

A requirement of the competition brief was to provide a high proportion of residential apartments with views of Aachen’s cathedral and town hall spires.

Designing high quality residential in a dense mixed-use setting has its challenges and careful consideration has been given to their location in order to ensure natural lighting all year round.

Chapman Taylor is responsible for masterplanning, having won an urban design competition
